Abstract

Doctoral thesis. Documents the dynamics of the Southampton Island (Northwest Territories) caribou population from introduction (1967) to 1991; explores the relationships between growth, body condition, reproduction, and food availability in caribou; investigates the consequences of caribou grazing on the vegetation cover; and, analyzes the response, net production and chemical composition, of caribou forage to defoliation.
