Abstract

Description

In the modern world, communication has become essential in everyone’s daily life, but some remote communities still need the internet and other essential communication services. Due to no contact with the outer world, remote communities are at a socio-economic disadvantage with no access to the latest information. This all together leads to Digital Divide [1]. There are many reasons for this poor connectivity to the outside world. It can be either due to poor infrastructure of communication facilities or a lack of knowledge to use the provided facilities. Many organizations worldwide are working on this issue and trying to find and adopt new techniques to lessen the digital divide gap. A wireless node called Nimble [2] is one of the solutions for this digital divide. This document is a primer for Nimble; it is an application of Intranet (a local network that allows users to share and store information within a community or organization), which has proven to be a solution to the digital divide by eliminating the need for constant internet connection in rural areas. Users can use Nimble to access content, video call, chat, and share files without the internet. The main goal of this document is to provide basic knowledge on how a Nimble works, The Components involved in designing Nimble, and the services offered by a Nimble device. By reading this document, the reader can build and use Nimble independently.
