Abstract

Description

High‐field dynamic nuclear polarization nuclear magnetic resonance (DNP NMR) spectroscopy is rapidly emerging as a revolutionary analytical structural method by greatly enhancing the sensitivity of nuclear magnetic resonance. Innovative solutions are constantly being introduced to address the challenges to implementing this technique. To this end, we dedicate this section to discussing the evolution of DNP NMR instrumentation that is vital to the advancement of this high‐polarization method. Key infrastructural aspects covered here include microwave sources, microwave transmission, the DNP NMR probe, magic‐angle spinning (MAS) hardware, rotors, cryogenics, and the NMR magnet and console. This transformative technology offers the promise of overcoming existing sensitivity barriers that have in some cases precluded the application of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to the resolution of challenging questions in structural and analytical chemistry.
