Abstract

Description

This is part of an attempt to translate into English some passages in the Japanese official history text "Nihon Shoki" (日本書紀). In this short passage, a little humour is shown, perhaps to enliven the otherwise formality of an official history. It is noteworthy that "Nihon Shoki" was written in classical Chinese, the only available written language in East Asia at the time of the compilation in the early 8th century CE. And this written language was understandable by the three cultures of the Far East at the time.
