Abstract

Description

Academic departments display a variety of knowledge management needs, with primary needs of knowledge sharing and generation due to their teaching and research activities. This paper examines the potential for using microblogging platforms as knowledge sharing and generation tools within small academic departments. The paper examines the features that make microblogging suited for knowledge sharing and generation, and the potential benefits and challenges of using microblogging in this way. The paper also presents a case study highlighting the use of microblogging by a research team at the University of Leiden. This paper and the accompanying presentation were prepared for LIS 507: Introduction to Knowledge Management (Fall 2016).
