SSHRC CG awarded 2024: This conference will explore the interplay between science and philosophy in the premodern period of South Asia. Topics include but are not limited to: Philosophical Foundations of Knowledge; Hermeneutic Traditions, Ancient Indian Cosmology, Medicine and Healing Traditions, Yoga (Embodied Philosophy), Alchemy and Metallurgy, and Linguistics, philology, textual criticism. The presentations will explore the interconnectedness of knowledge systems in premodern South Asia and examine the philosophical underpinnings that guided scientific inquiry in the region in order to generate new knowledge through which to assess the development of established Indic sciences and the emergence and institutionalization of new sciences in the late classical and medieval periods.
