Description
This presentation provides a case study in the design of a set of openly licensed, interactive, instructional videos on copyright in the K-12 Canadian context. Knowledge of copyright is important for teachers in the K-12 context given the multiple ways copyright protected works may be used. The videos are designed to increase copyright literacy for pre-service and practicing teachers, and are also integrated within a larger copyright literacy project. The case study expands on the literature of open educational resource design that examines the relationships among open licensing, reusability, specificity and engagement.
The presentation examines the tensions and pedagogical choices involved developing such the videos including how characters and narratives were determined to make the subject matter more contextual and engaging, while working within design limitations by having to create the videos to align with an existing suite of resources.
