| dc.description | Broadly speaking, this study will be examining the historical imposition of colonial ideologies upon the Indigenous peoples. The purpose of this thesis is, ultimately, in its appeal to understanding Indigenous issues in a new way, i.e. to advocate a new way of thinking about Indigenous issues that acknowledges their colonial past while considering their ongoing journey toward emancipation and self-determination. Essential to this objective is my postcolonial perspective on the biblical texts of Ezra-Nehemiah, which will provide a unique reading that I will employ in this thesis. So while the biblical exegesis in this study pales in comparison to the overall indigenous content, it is a crucial hermeneutical strategy that will enhance my understanding of the current status of Indigenous peoples' identity. | |
