Abstract

Description

As IPv4 is nearing the end of its ability to meet the needs of the growing network community, IPv6 has been selected as the protocol which will meet the demands of future network growth. Every new technology brings about a period of uncertainty as businesses, operators, and users transition from the previous technology to the new, and only through research, experimentation and implementation can this uncertainty be removed. The purpose of this project is to determine if there is a difference in the time required to restore user communications after a link failure has occurred. The IPv4 versions of RIP, EIGRP and OSPF will be evaluated against their IPv6 equivalents.
